Distance Gala veterans Emily Sisson (Sr., Parkway Central, MO) and Walter Schafer (Sr., Cherry Creek, CO) both qualified for the US Junior National Cross Country team over the weekend.  Competing at the USATF Cross Country Championships, both Sisson and Schafer placed second in the junior races.

Sisson ran a strong pace from start to finish in the junior women's race, crossing the finish line five seconds behind race winner Shelby Greany (Providence College) in 20:32.  Meanwhile, the Notre Dame-bound Schafer finished six seconds behind junior men's winner Trevor Dunbar (Portland University) in 24:10.

Sisson, who recently signed her letter of intent with the University of Wisconsin, and Schafer will now shift their focus to the IAAF World Cross Country Championships, which take place in Poland on March 28, 2010.
