Verzbicas Takes His Shot at Legendary Status
Published by
Already one of the greatest high school cross country runners of all-time, Illinois' Lukas Verzbicas (Sr., Sandburg H.S., IL) is taking his shot at becoming a true legend on the track, too. Earlier this month, Verzbicas announced that he will not run for his high school track and field team due to Illinois state rules that forbid Illinois athletes from competing in national competitions during the Illinois track and field season. With that move, many speculated what Verzbicas would do next, and it seems to be apparent now that his plans include putting himself on the biggest stages possible. The New Balance Indoor Grand Prix announced that Verzbicas will compete in the men's mile on February 5 in Boston. He'll face off against runners like Alan Webb and Nick Willis, hoping to get pulled to a very fast time. While his indoor season is shaping up nicely, it will be interesting to see how Verzbicas' outdoor season comes together. With limited racing opportunities in April and May, will he take his talents to the biggest collegiate events, or will he quietly train to explode during the month of June? The prep track and field community will be watching. Webb, Willis & Verzbicas at NB Indoor Grand Prix (NBIGP) Verzbicas Filling Up Indoor Season (ESPN Rise) |
